The Roller Mill of MPE uses stacked stages of roller pairs to grind and mill down free flowing dry solids to any narrow particle size distribution from 100 micron up to a few millimeters, depending on product requirements. It is the market leader for coffee grinding due to its superior temperature control and heavy-duty, reliable machine design.
From the feed hopper the product is falling into the feeder which is designed to feed the product evenly into the nip between the two rotating rollers, making sure that the full length of the nip is filled with product. This is important to obtain consistent milling performance. The rollers are made of very hard low wearing alloys and they can be cooled to limit the temperature increase of the product. On coffee for instance, the product temperature usually is maintained below 40 deg C, to ensure superb milled product quality. The rollers are rotating at different speeds resulting mainly in product shearing, tearing the solids more than crushing them. In order to achieve a narrow final product size distribution, the mill is executed with 2 or 3 stages, resulting in a gentle size reduction.
In Israel we supplied multiple roller mills for coffee, breadcrumb as well as fertilizers. All of these applications require a narrow particle size reduction and in case of coffee a tight temperature control.
